With gas prices going up, the age old questions is do you build your exhibit locally with a partner you can trust or do you ship it and bite the bullet with the shipping cost? What have been your experiences? What do you think the pros / cons would be? Looking forward to hearing your feedback!

Building your exhibits locally with a reliable partner in a nation zone that bares a lower production cost, rental of workshop and storage is always the best. Plus it is a hassle free of transporting the ready-made structures and exhibits can avoid crazy shipping cost. However, the standard of quality could be different from both parties, so bare in mind, an expert agent who understand quality control for both places, and who is capable to communicate for both cultures is very important too.

How then do you control the quality of the booth that is being built with out having to go down to site and drive up the cost? I know there is phone, email, webinar, etc... but can that really be trusted? From my experiences it's about 50/50. What do you think?

You control the quality of the booth by working with a company who has a reputation for quality and service. This reduces your risk and all of the technology really does help. We use Skype to communicate with people all over the country. Renting locally makes sense economically as well as environmentally. Definitely something to consider.

control the quality in the same culture is much easier than a difference culture, for example, the standard of the quality in germany is higher than most of the european country. Japan is higher than hongkong, china. so when we doing some project need to be cross country, understand both countries culture is very important.

Very interesting comment... Man Cheng, can you comment on what the differences are with quality... are the prices extremely different? What specifically are the differences when it comes to building trade show exhibits?

hi, Richard

For example, a roll up banner with graphic (0.8m x 1.6m) in north america cost us120 to us200 but in china, it only cost rmb100, so it almost 8 to 10 time cheaper, but the outlook is the same, only the quailty of the metal and mechanic is not as good as north america, everybody know most of the product selling here is produce in china, why the quality of the product come out different because some agent do the quailty control before it put into the market.
Talking about a big trade show booth, sometime it involve woodwork, steel structure, graphic, electrical, flooring and onsite workforce, how to construct a good quality booth with a economic cost, choosing a reliable vendor and a good agent is very important, they must understand all the cost and operation detail, which part they can save money and which part they must control the quailty, just like the about example,if u use a roll up banner only in one event, why u care about the metal and the mechanic, but if this banner need to display in a shopping mall for a whole year, then it will be totally different.

hope that the above can answer your question.

Trade show exhibits are very expensive. Investing money in buying them can be expensive for start-up businesses and small scale companies. Also investing them is a viable option only if you take part in trade shows on a regular basis. Trade show booth rentals take a whole lot of pressure off your budget with the flexible rental offers they present.
